It’s dark again.
And that objectively sucks. Even in this realm of remote work, most of us still have day jobs, and it’s never fun to sit down at your desk in the morning and not get up again before the sun goes down.
But it’s a sure sign the end of the year is coming, and we can look at that in two ways. In one, we’re running out of time to meet the expectations we’d set for ourselves. In the other, it’s time to put our pencils down and take stock of what we did get done.
On paper, it doesn’t look like I got very far, but the best part of the social reset during the past two years has been letting that shit go. Didn’t get very far? According to whom? By my accounting, I wrote more than I ever have, I traveled the world, I fell in love. And that’s the stuff that adds up.
What did you add to your stack this year? What’s still on the list? You’ve got 50 days left in this year, and that’s plenty of time to add the things that count: trying a new routine, calling an old friend, or just hanging on. That’s ok, too, because it’s the end of the year, and it’s getting dark.
