Out of Office
Your editor is on vacation at the summer house this week, but it is far from a quiet holiday. My mom is one of six, and two years after our last reunion of any kind, we’ve maneuvered to get all of her siblings plus their families and a few special guests under one roof.
There are some quiet moments to steal, but mostly there are toasts, jokes, and stories bouncing off the walls. Stories we’ve heard every year for twenty years. Stories that are unearthed or finally confessed to after forty years. Stories about new additions to the family this year.
There’s magic to the rapture of a story you’ve heard many times before, and it makes me wonder what stories I’ll be repeating in the future. And who will be listening.
Have a great weekend, and we’ll jump back into the deep end next week.
