5 things I did last week that provided absolutely no shareholder value
but I'm going to keep doing anyway
It’s easy for me to make light of this as I’m not in the crossfire of Elon’s petty games, but I think it’s incumbent upon all of us to ask what we’re doing each week that’s providing value to ourselves and only ourselves. Write them down or just ruminate, but take some time to recognize that you’re learning and growing at the pace that’s right for you, and don’t let a remote bureaucratic entity push you into measuring your output a certain way.
If any unelected czars are reading this, here are 5 things I did last week that you’re not gonna like:
I took Birdie for a long walk and let her make all the decisions. Which way to go, what to sniff, how long we could sniff the same tree. It was nice to let someone else be in charge for half an hour.
I journaled to start the week. It’s the closest thing to time travel we’ve got, and I hate to say it, but most of our biographers aren’t coming to do it for us.
I reached out to an old friend because a song reminded me of them. That was it, that was the message, but it only takes a few words to have an outsized impact.
I told someone what was getting me down and where I want to be better. I found a new therapist in August, and I feel like we’re really getting somewhere 6 months in. Highly recommend paying an impartial third party to let you gab in their direction.
I went on a date with my wife. I guess we have a few ways to time travel because we went back to the site of our very first date and relived the magic of a moment that split our life into a before and after.
There are so many things of value done each week that shouldn’t be captured in a spreadsheet. That are meaningful only to you. Keep doing them and don’t let the bastards get you down.
Great advice
Stick it to 'em, Jack! Loved this one.
