Big Swiss by Jen Beagin
Greta spends her days transcribing the sessions of a sex therapist. Because there are only so many places to go in her small upstate New York town, she sometimes recognizes the voices of clients in coffee shops or bars. It was never difficult to keep her professional distance from these people until she became infatuated with Big Swiss, a married woman who’s a bit repressed, and can’t help wondering how Greta understands her so well before they’ve even really met.
Good Material by Dolly Alderton
Andy is a mid-30s comedian on the wrong end of a breakup with the love of his life (at least to hear him tell it), and Good Material is like a great rom-com in reverse. We meet the characters in the throes of the post-split madness, and then learn what made them work…until it didn’t. Along the way, Alderton lets her characters wallow and commiserate without judgement. It’s funny and sweet and relatable, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw it come to Netflix in the not-too-distant future.
